Mum Runs 8 Races in 5 Months

Alison Collins has shown her support for her daughter and FMA UK with this extreme challenge for the summer of 2014.  Read her story and admire her courage after the problems with the very first race.

If you are near Chelmsford perhaps you can support Alison and raise awareness by wearing a FMA UK t-shirt as well.

I started running in the lead up to my 50th birthday in 2012 and after running my first 10k last year wanted to do something to push myself this year in order to raise funds for the Fibromyalgia Association.   I have decided to enter the Essex 10k Cross Country Series which are five 10k runs, one a month, from May to September.   I am also going to be taking part in the Westminster Mile in May, the Chelmsford Race for Business in June (5k) and the Anniversary Run in the Olympic Park (5 mile) in July for good measure!!  This might make me sound like an expert runner, but please be under no illusions - I know  each one is going to be a struggle, but I am hoping that your donations will help me to complete them!

I have chosen to raise money  and awareness for the Fibromyalgia Association as this is an "invisible" disease that my daughter, Emma has suffered from and continues to suffer from since the age of 18.

I completed the first of my 10k races at Danbury Woods, Essex, in 1hr 15mins, with a couple of hiccups on the way.   We had a false start being led in the wrong direction, so had to walk back and start again, then, unfortunately I tripped and fell over – twice! – once before the first km and the second time less than ½ km from the finish line!  I ended up with a sore elbow, knee, achy shoulders and a pulled oblique muscles so, as my daughter pointed out, have some inkling of what it might feel like with fibromyalgia – although unlike sufferers I am lucky in that I know the pain will subside.

I have almost reached my original target of £500 and may need to set a new one, so I am very pleased.I completed the first of my 10k races at Danbury Woods, Essex, in 1hr 15mins, with a couple of hiccups on the way.
