Look out next month for the full programme for this all day online meeting from the Royal Society of Medicine in association with FMA UK where we will explore what current care looks like for people in the UK with fibromyalgia and the ideas that will transform this in the years to come.
We have put together a superb panel of speakers that include those with lived experience and those with expertise in treatment.
The meeting is for both service users and health professionals and will be a place where everyone can share ideas and be part of this transformation.
Speakers include Prof. Winfried Häuser, Prof. Ernest Choy, Ms. Louise Trewern, Mr. Des Quinn, Dr. Deepak Ravindran and Dr. Andreas Goebbel.

How to register
Cost to patients will be £10 for the whole day of speakers and panels. Health professionals will have a higher charge to access this webinair. For information on the proceeds of this event see information at the bottom. Register for the event here.
- You need to register on the RSM site but it will not make you a memembr and is just for the order process
- For registering you need to choose a profession, like Retired.
- Find the 'Book'-button and click on that, then choose the option 'Non Healthcare Professional'.
- For booking you need to fill in 'Job Title' and 'Institution'. Just putting in 'none' works fine.
- Credit card is required for purchase
About the Speakers

Prof. Winfried Häuser |
Winfried Häuser is a specialist of general internal medicine, psychosomatic medicine and pain medicine. He is a consultant for gastroenterology, hepatology, oncology and infectious diseases in the department of Internal Medicine I, academic hospital Saarbrücken, Germany. He is a member of the ambulatory pain medicine and mental health care center Saarbrücken and offers special consultant hours for patients with fibromyalgia and chronic abdominal pain. He is adjunct professor for psychosomatic medicine at the Technical University Munich, Germany. His areas of research are psychosomatic aspects of bowel diseases, functional somatic syndromes (fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic pelvic pain), evidence-based medicine and health care research. |

Prof. Ernest Choy |
Head of Rheumatology and Translational Research at the Institute of Infection and Immunity and Director of the Cardiff Regional Experimental Arthritis Treatment and Evaluation (CREATE) Centre at Cardiff University School of Medicine, Cardiff, Wales, UK. He is also Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at University Hospital of Wales and Clinical Lead of the Welsh Arthritis Research Network (WARN). Previously, he was Reader and Director of the King’s Musculoskeletal Clinical Trials Unit in the Academic Department of Rheumatology, King’s College London. |

Dr. Deepak Ravindran |
Dr Ravindran has over 20 years of experience in acute and chronic pain management. He is the clinical lead for pain medicine at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading. He firmly believes that pain conditions should be treated as early as possible, with the appropriate use of multidisciplinary techniques to improve patient quality of life. His clinic offers a comprehensive service, starting with expert diagnosis and followed up by high quality medical treatment that is complemented by good support from specialists in physiotherapy and psychology. He is trauma informed and follows an upstream approach to medicine. |

Dr. Andreas Goebel. |
Dr. Goebel works as a Reader (Associate Professor) in Pain Medicine at the University of Liverpool, and as Hon. Consultant in Pain Medicine at the Walton Centre in Liverpool. He specialises in the field of chronic primary pain, including complex regional pain syndrome and fibromyalgia, in the context of injury, trauma, or medical interventions. He is familiar with the latest evidence and has contributed to formulating evidence in this field as one of the worldwide leading researchers. He has initiated, and has been chairing the UK guidance development group on complex regional pain syndrome under the umbrella of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), and is also co-chairing the RCP diagnostic guidelines group for Fibromyalgia Syndrome. |

Mr. Des Quinn |
As chair of FMA UK I am responsible for ensuring that we set long term goals while ensuring that the day to day operations of the charity keep getting done. With my previous role of keeping the IT operations like the website and social media running properly, I am still involved with these and step in as required to help out. More info here. |

Ms. Louise Trewern |
I am Vice-Chair of British Pain Society’s Patient Voice Committee, Lived Experience Team Member Live Well With Pain, Lay Committee of Royal College Of Anaesthetists, Chair of Get Involved Committee at Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust Pain Rehabilitation Service, lay member of the Physiotherapy Pain Association Executive Committee and sit on the NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) Safe Prescribing of Opioids, Gabapentinoids, Antidepressants & Z-Drugs Committee to name just some of my national commitments. |

About Fibromyalgia Action UK
Funding of the event and use of funds after event costs have been covered.
This event is primarily aimed at raising awareness amongst health professionals but also including patients. An event such as this has costs not only in organisers time and administrtion but payment services and hosting as well. A conference or event such as this can come with risk but we are lucky in this case that RSM is putting this event on and covering the organistaiton and risk. Once all costs are covered for the event pany profits from the patient reigstrations will be directed to the charity. Expereince from putting on this event will hopefully allow the charity to carry out smaller and more focussed events in the future and funds from this event will help with this as well as our other activities.

If your Health Care Professional needs some education in fibromyalgia you can request that an FMA UK Health Professionals Pack is sent out to them. All we need is the name of the Health CareProfessional and the address of their practice. We will then send a pack to their surgery addressed from us to them.
You can request a medical pack using this form.
You can find a Support Group near you by contacting the Regional Coordinator for your area. If there does not happen to be a support group near you then maybe you can join with some other members and set one up. Support groups provide a social benefit as well as the opportunity to share tips on coping with fibro. They come in all shapes and sizes and we are often told how they have helped people.
